An Afternoon at the Park

On Saturday, we went to the park with the girls.  We rode the train and fed the ducks in the duck pond.  This was Hannah’s second time on the train and Aleah’s first.  It was a beautiful, warm and sunny day.  Matt had a wedding in the evening so we didn’t stay too long, but we really had fun!

Matt said someone once asked him why the Staunton park is called Gypsy Hill Park.  Matt told them that according to his parents, a group of traveling gypsies frequently came through this area and had a standing agreement with the city that they could set up camp where the park is located.  The gypsies haven’t been there for many, many years but the name has stuck!

Here we are waiting in line for our turn to ride the train. Matt tells me he rode this little train at the Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton when he was little.

A very nice couple we met offered to take our picture.
A very nice couple we met offered to take our picture. The picture turned out a little dark, but at least we were able to get a shot of all four of us.

The last time we rode the train Daddy held Hannah (because I was very pregnant with Aleah), so this time I suggested that I hold Hannah and he hold Aleah.

Hannah and Mommy getting ready to go.
Hannah and Mommy getting ready to go. There is a tradition that when riding this train little kiddos must scream as loud as they can when going through the tunnels.  Hannah was excited about this but only got out a couple quiet, “Whoo-Whoos!” Funny how she can scream about nothing all day long and then when she is supposed to scream she doesn’t take advantage! Oh, the joys of parenthood. . .

Hannah looked around and commented on the bright sun and the green trees.

Hannah loves to feed the ducks in the pond. You can buy a bag of duck food at the Kwik Mart for 75 cents. Hannah and a bunch of other little kids used it all!

It was really funny, though, Hannah kept throwing duck food onto one swan’s back and it just made a nice little pile there. Poor swan.
